Craigslist publishes its job posting fee as a range, "$10-75 (fee varies by area)", and leaves the actual number to the posting screen, where it appears as "select categories ( $45 each )" after you have picked a city and a posting type. That is why the price everybody quotes is either the whole range or a figure from an old spreadsheet. We walked Craigslist's own posting flow for every US area, stopping before payment, and recorded the fee each one charges. The calculator above and the state table below are that dataset.
For a local hourly role, the answer is simple and usually cheap. For a remote role it is not, because Craigslist sells visibility one metro at a time and a remote candidate can live in any of them. That is the arithmetic most employers only notice after the first month of reposting.

How much does it cost to post a job on Craigslist?
Between $10 and $75 per post in the US, and in most of the country it is $10 to $25. Craigslist's help pages give only the range and say the fee is stated "on the type or category page", so we read that page in every area. Of 413 US areas, 375 charge $25 or less. The expensive tier is short: the SF bay area at $75, then 14 large metros at $45 and 23 at $35.
The fee buys one post in one area and one job category, live for 30 days. Craigslist calls it "a one time charge" and says it has no automated renewal fees or subscriptions, which is true and also the catch: nothing renews, so a role that is still open on day 31 needs a new paid post. Choosing a second category, say "admin/office" and "customer service", doubles the fee, because the category page charges per category ticked. The separate gigs section runs $3 to $10 and is meant for short, one-off work, not for a salaried hire.
Two things are not in the fee. There is no applicant tracking beyond an email relay, and there is no pay range field that forces the number into the ad, so if you hire in a state that requires one, it has to go in the description yourself. Which states require it is on our page on pay transparency laws by state.
How much is a Craigslist job posting in each state?
The table lists every state with its number of Craigslist areas, the fee range, the most expensive area and what it costs to post one role once in every area of that state. California is the most expensive state to cover because it has 28 areas: $695 for one 30 day run. Texas is next at $485 across 27 areas, then Florida at $430 and New York at $345.

Can you post a remote job on Craigslist?
Yes. The job posting form has a "telecommuting ok" box, and ticking it marks the role as remote. What it does not do is free the post from a location. Every Craigslist post still belongs to one area, asks for a ZIP code, and shows up only to people browsing that area's jobs section. Craigslist's area picker says it directly: "please limit each posting to a single area and category".
So a remote role on Craigslist is really a local ad that happens to say remote. To put it in front of candidates across the country you buy it again in each metro, and the cost climbs with the metros that matter most, because the biggest labor markets are the priciest areas. We added it up from the dataset:
| Coverage for one remote role | One 30 day run | Kept live for 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| The 3 most expensive metros | $165 | $1,980 |
| The 15 most expensive metros | $705 | $8,460 |
| The 38 metros priced at $35 or more | $1,510 | $18,120 |
| All 413 US areas | $7,375 | $88,500 |
Twelve months means a new paid post in each area every 30 days, since Craigslist posts do not renew. Against that, a remote listing that every reader can see regardless of where they live is one fee. On this board it is $199 a month, which is about what three Craigslist metros cost for a single run. The full comparison with Indeed, LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter and the remote boards is on what it costs to post a job.
Does Craigslist charge to repost a job?
Yes. Craigslist's lifespan page says paid postings are live for 30 days and that "a new posting or repost must be created and purchased to be listed at the top of 'by date' search results." There is no paid bump. A job post that has slid down the list after a busy week stays where it is unless you pay the full fee again.
That matters more for hiring than for selling a couch. Applications to any job ad arrive mostly in the first days and then fall off, which we measured across boards in how long a job posting should stay up. On Craigslist the practical cost of a role that takes six weeks to fill is often two or three posts per area, not one.
Is Craigslist worth it for hiring?
For a local, hourly role in one metro, often yes. Ten or twenty-five dollars for a month in a mid-sized city is the cheapest paid exposure in US hiring, and warehouse, trades, hospitality and delivery candidates still browse Craigslist jobs. If the role needs someone at a specific address, one post in the right area is hard to beat on price.
For a remote or salaried professional role, the numbers turn. You pay per metro for candidates who could work from anywhere, you get an email relay rather than an applicant pipeline, and you cannot tell the reader that the ad was checked by anyone. Indeed covers the whole country in one post but sells visibility through an auction; we compared the two for employers, with the per-applicant arithmetic, in Craigslist vs Indeed for employers. Indeed's own budget minimums and what employers actually spend are on Indeed job posting cost.
Post the remote role once instead of once per city
LatestRemote lists fully-remote roles only, with a salary range on every listing, read daily by people who are looking for remote work specifically. A listing is $199 a month for one live role, it stays up until you cancel instead of expiring after 30 days, applicants come straight to your inbox, and there is no commission on the hire. There is no area to choose, because the reader is not browsing by city.
If you still want Craigslist for a local hourly role alongside it, use the calculator above to price the exact areas you need. For the remote role, one listing does what 15 Craigslist posts would, at less than a third of the $705. Plans are on remote job posting pricing.
Questions employers ask about Craigslist job posting cost
- Does Craigslist charge to post jobs?
- Yes. Job postings are one of the few paid categories on Craigslist in the US: $10 to $75 per post depending on the area, charged once for 30 days. In our read of all 413 US areas on 18 September 2026, 167 charge $10, the median is $15 and only the SF bay area charges $75.
- How much is a Craigslist job posting in New York City?
- $45 per post, per job category, for 30 days. Elsewhere in New York State, Long Island is $35; Albany, Buffalo, Hudson Valley, Rochester and Syracuse are $25; Binghamton and Ithaca are $15; and the remaining upstate areas are $10. Covering all 20 New York areas once costs $345.
- How much does it cost to post a job on Craigslist in California?
- From $10 to $75. The SF bay area is $75, the most expensive area in the US; Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego are $45; Sacramento and the Inland Empire are $35. California has 28 Craigslist areas, and posting one role once in all of them costs $695.
- How long does a Craigslist job posting last?
- Paid job postings stay live for 30 days. Craigslist does not renew them automatically and has no subscription, so a role still open after 30 days needs a new paid post. Reposting is also the only way back to the top of the by-date listings; there is no paid bump.
- Can I post the same job in multiple cities on Craigslist?
- Only by buying a separate post in each area. Craigslist asks posters to limit each posting to a single area and category, and each post is priced by its area. A remote role in the 15 most expensive US metros costs $705 for one 30 day run.
- Is it cheaper to post a gig than a job on Craigslist?
- Yes, gigs cost $3 to $10 in the US, against $10 to $75 for jobs. The gigs section is for short, one-off paid work such as a day of moving help or a single event. An ongoing or salaried position belongs in the jobs section, where candidates looking for employment actually search.
